    Massage Frequently Asked Questions?

What should I expect during my first massage visit?
Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form.  Afterwards the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to determine if massage is appropriate for you.  Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints.  You should arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to fill out forms, uses the bathroom and avoid being rushed.

What do I wear during my massage?
Depending on the primary technique your therapist uses, you may or may not need to fully undress.  As Swedish massage is performed using oil or lotion on the skin, you will need to disrobe to some extent.  Your massage therapist will leave the room while you undress and will knock before reentering the room.  You will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.

Do I have to talk to my therapist during the massage?
We believe that limiting the amount of conversation during massage facilitates deep relaxation.  Some clients feel pressure to keep a conversation going just to be polite or out of concern that the therapist will be bored.  Please do not worry about us.  This is your time to unwind.  Do not hesitate to ask your therapist for a silent massage.  We won't be offended, we promise!

I forgot to shave my legs!  Is that a problem?
No, it's not a problem at all!  The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed, and not self-conscious about leg hair (or underarm hair, or that you haven't had a pedicure, or any of the other million things we beat ourselves up)  We treat all clients with dignity, respect, and non-judgement whether they be large, small, young, old or hairy. : )

Will I be sore after my massage?
Some people feel stiff and achy following a therapeutic massage and others never do.  The possibility of having sore muscles following a treatment is more common with your first massage.  The more often you have massage, the more your body will adapt.  For clients prone to post-massage soreness, one hald hour every other week may be more beneficial than one hour once a month.

Soreness may also occur because massage can release metabolic wastes and other minerals that are stored in your muscles and other soft tissues and flushed out,  You body may respond to this with pain.  It is advised to drink a lot of water after a massage to aid in flushing out these waste products.

When is massage therapy not recommended?
